Les Revell was one of the founder members of Test Valley Turners. He was a long serving committee member, resigning finally at the 2002 AGM due to ill health.
He was always very supportive of new and younger turners and extremely keen to help them to develop their turning skills.
Following his untimely death in February 2002, the club instituted a competition to honour his contribution to woodturning. The competition was to be judged on the basis of the entries to the monthly gallery and would be awarded annually
The inaugural ceremony was marked by the donation of a permanent trophy in the form of a large candlestick (see picture) turned by John Sanders and coloured by his wife Jan, and its presentation to John Davis.
At the presentation, John and Jan both recalled tales of teaching Les to turn.
Les is also remembered by the award of a trophy in his name by Hampshire Woodturners
